We, the United Democrats of Washington County or UDWC, are an activist group formed in 2015 following the dissolution of the South County Democratic Club. In the wake of the 2016 election we began ramping up our activity to bring in more members of the community, to organize, and to make our voices heard.
We currently have around 70 members and meet once a month on the second or third Wednesday. During the pandemic we are meeting via Zoom.
We are working in concert with other area Democratic groups, and some of our members belong to several groups or attend their meetings in order to stay informed. We hope to become a central clearinghouse for all activity in the area. Other area Democratic organizations include:
The Washington County Democratic Central Committee (WCDCC) is the governing body for the Democratic Party in the county. It consists of eight members, four male and four female, who are elected. We just elected four of our members to the committee in June 2018. This is the group that coordinates all official party activities in the county, and all campaign activity is coordinated through them.
The Democratic Women of Washington County (DWWC) is an activist organization formed to bring together area Democratic women in a social setting. It has expanded to include women from Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The title encourages women to join, but it is also open to men. The group has between 40 – 50 members. Projects include WACDFT training for clinic escorts.
Our organizational mission is to encourage and engage Democrats in Washington County in the political process; to promote Democratic ideals and principles; and to actively support the election of Democratic candidates representing Washington County.
